From Xinjiang, looking toward Central Asia
Regional economy, trade & sustainable development

The Xinjiang–Central Asia Institute for Economic and Environmental Studies (CAIEES) is a private academic institute focusing on Central Asia. Our core work is on the regional economy, trade and industry, complemented by research on resources, environment and human capital, carried out in an interdisciplinary manner.

Research Areas

Research areas

A core focus on regional economy, trade and industry, complemented by work on resources, environment and human capital — long-term, restrained and evidence-based.

01 / Economy & Trade

Regional economy, trade & policy

The institute’s core focus. Industrial chains, cross-border trade, infrastructure and the business environment between Xinjiang and Central Asia, with sustained attention to policy uncertainty and its economic effects — built into comparable medium- and long-term indicators.

02 / Resources & Sustainability

Resources, environment & sustainability

Reading water, land and energy through the lens of socio-economic and industrial activity in Central Asia, with attention to ecological constraints, industrial transition and the trade-offs of regional sustainability.

03 / Human Resources

Human resources & mobility

A supporting dimension to our economic work: demographic structure, labour markets and cross-border mobility across Central Asia and Xinjiang, organised into comparable indicators and long time series.

Cooperation

External cooperation
